
Anne Francis
1930Anne Francis started her career as a child model in New York City at the tender age of five. She progressed to children's radio on NBC and CBS, and then moved to Broadway in Lady in The Dark. Anne did her share of radio soap operas, until she signed a year contract with MGM where she did two day's work on a film called Summer Holiday. Once her contract expired, she moved back to New York, where she settled into the exciting and creative post War era of live television performing on many shows such as Playhouse 90, U. S. Steel Hour and Kraft Theater. She also hosted a weekly Variety show at NBC called, The Bonnie Maid Versatile Variety Show! While playing a teenage prostitute with a baby in So Young, So Bad, she came under the attention of Twentieth Century Fox. While she was shooting The Whistle at Eaton Falls she signed a three year contract with Twentieth Century Fox.
After that contract expired she returned to MGM, and then went free lance. Her film credits include, Lydia Bailey, Elopement, Dreamboat, Bad Day at Black Rock, Blackboard Jungle, Rogue Cop, and Forbidden Planet, The Rack, Hook, Line and Sinker, The Love God, and Funny Girl. Theater credits include My Sister Eileen, Cactus Flower, Move Over Mrs. Markham, Steel Magnolias and Love Letters. Returning to her roots in television Anne has been active in many Movies of the Week and guested on major sitcoms. She was recently on the Drew Carey Show and the last segment of the "new" Fantasy Island.
In addition to acting, Anne wrote, directed, and produced an art film short released in theaters and shown on PBS entitled, Gemini Rising. Anne has also written a book entitled "Voices from Home", a revealing journey of the heart and spirit, and is working on a new book. Her last writing project was her millennium calendar, commemorating Forbidden Planet. Anne received the Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Emmy for her role as Honey West in the series of the same name. She also won a first place award at the Santa Barbara Writer's Conference for film writing. Anne has just moved back to her beloved Santa Barbara, and does not plan to roam too far from home!
